emerging warrior : 1/23/07 watercolor pencil. I recently put a hole through this image as I was hanging it. I've been planning on re-creating it using higher quality media for awhile now. So even though I love this image, I learned that I am not so attached to it and was not upset as I thought I would be by ruining it. But then again this IS what this image is about.

Breaking free : watercolor 6/06, 5 1/4x 8 1/4". I did this painting a few days after a painful breakup with a man whom I felt was emotionally manipulative with me. For me this painting was about breaking free from the constraints of that unhealthy relationship. And lately when I look back at the painting I see that it looks as though the bird is not going to break free. It looks quite entangled. This image has recently taken on a new meaning for me. It speaks to my struggles with my sense of self and my journey of letting go and learning selflessness. There are ways that my ego works to hold on, not letting the bird fly free. I feel the need to create a piece to follow this, to show the stage I have just begun. We’ll see what emerges.
